Make your screenshots look expensive (for free, with no watermark)

Raw screenshots look like bug reports. My free screenshot mockup tool turns them into polished product shots with gradients, browser and phone frames, shadows, 3D tilt and stacked layers, then exports a 2x PNG or JPG or copies it to your clipboard. No sign-up, no watermark, and your image never leaves your browser.

Every product launch post on X has the same screenshot: rounded corners, a soft shadow, a gradient behind it that someone clearly spent too long picking. Every one of mine used to be a raw PNG with my bookmarks bar in it.

I tried the screenshot beautifier apps. They're good. Then I hit the watermark, or the sign-up wall, or the "this background is Pro" lock, and I did what I always do: built my own screenshot mockup tool.

All of these make nice images. The question is what you pay for it, in money or in data.

What can you do with it?

It grew a lot more controls than I planned.

Get the screenshot in

  • Drag and drop it onto the canvas, upload it, or just paste (Ctrl/Cmd + V) right after you take a screenshot.
  • Crop it first with free-form or fixed ratios (1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16, 3:2 and the portrait versions).

Backgrounds

  • 14 gradient presets, from pastel to moody dark ones.
  • A custom gradient editor with multiple colour stops, per-stop opacity and an angle.
  • Image backgrounds with a colour tint and blur, so a photo behind your UI doesn't fight it.
  • Solid colour, or transparent for when the mockup is going on top of something else.

Frames

FrameBest for
macOSDesktop app or website screenshots
macOS UnifiedThe modern, toolbar-merged Mac look
Windows 11Apps your Windows users will recognise
BrowserWeb apps, with an editable address bar
iPhoneMobile screenshots
NoneJust the image with corners and shadow

Frames come in light and dark, and the Browser frame lets you type the URL that shows in its address bar. (Yes, you can finally hide localhost:3000.)

Layout and depth

  • Aspect ratio for the whole canvas: auto, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 9:16 and more, so you get the right shape for X, LinkedIn, Instagram or a landing page.
  • Padding, set separately for horizontal and vertical, plus corner radius and an optional border.
  • Shadows: Soft, Lifted, Float or Custom with offset, blur, opacity and colour.
  • Scale, rotate, move and flip the screenshot inside the frame.
  • 3D tilt on two axes for that "floating on a landing page" look.
  • Stack effect: layered copies behind your screenshot, with count, offset, scale, opacity and blur, or a silhouette style. It makes one screenshot look like a whole product.

How do I export it?

flowchart LR
    A[Paste or drop a screenshot] --> B[Crop]
    B --> C[Background + frame]
    C --> D[Padding, shadow, tilt]
    D --> E{Export}
    E --> F[PNG 1x or 2x]
    E --> G[JPG 1x or 2x]
    E --> H[Copy PNG to clipboard]

Pick PNG or JPG at 1x or 2x. The export is rendered from a full-size copy of the mockup, not from the scaled-down preview on screen, so it stays sharp. Copy puts a PNG straight on your clipboard, ready to paste into X, Slack or a doc.

Made a mess? Undo and redo with Ctrl/Cmd + Z and Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z. A whole slider drag counts as one step, so undo doesn't crawl back one pixel at a time.

Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so unreleased features, customer dashboards and that embarrassing tab title stay on your machine.

FAQ

What is the best free screenshot beautifier?

If you want framed, shadowed screenshots with no watermark and no account, my screenshot mockup tool. For elaborate 3D device scenes, Shots.so is the strongest, with some features on a paid plan.

How do I add a background to a screenshot?

Paste the screenshot into the tool, pick a gradient preset, a custom gradient, a solid colour or your own image, and adjust the padding.

How do I put a screenshot in a browser or Mac window frame?

Choose macOS, macOS Unified, Windows 11 or Browser under frames. With the Browser frame, type the URL you want in the address bar.

Can I make an iPhone mockup from a screenshot?

Yes. Choose the iPhone frame and drop in a mobile screenshot.

Does it add a watermark?

No. Exports are clean at both 1x and 2x.

Can I export a transparent PNG?

Yes. Set the background to transparent and export as PNG. (JPG doesn't do transparency, so use PNG for this one.)

Want to try it?

Take a screenshot of whatever you're building, open the screenshot mockup tool and press Ctrl/Cmd + V. That's the whole onboarding. If you're also drawing architecture diagrams for the launch post, the Mermaid previewer exports them as PNG too. The rest of my free tools are here.
